Less than 39 million hectoliters of wine in “Cantina Italia” in July

“Cantina Italia” is slowly and continuously draining as wine companies are approaching the crucial moment of the grape harvest, and they hope it will be a definitely more abundant and less complex harvest than 2017. According to the bulletin published by the Quality Inspectorate and Fraud Repression on the data of the electronic register, updated to July 15th, there are 38.9 million hectoliters of wine in the Italian cellars, compared to 41.6 in the middle of June. PDO wines lead in “stocks” (20.3 million hectoliters) then PGI (9.9 million hectoliters), while wines that have no denomination of origin or geographical indication totaled more than 8.5 million hectoliters, and there are mostly red wines (PDO 11.9 million hectoliters and PGI 6 million hectoliters). The “richest” cellar, once again, and at a great distance, the Veneto region, which alone holds 9.2 million hectoliters of wine, as much as Tuscany (4.7) and Emilia Romagna (4.6), second and third places respectively, put together. The Piedmont region has 3.7 million hectoliters of wine in stock, Apulia, 3.4, Sicily 2.1 million hectoliters, while both Abruzzi and Lombardy have 2 million hectoliters in stock.
