"We have signed an agreement with the Dievole winery, which will invest 15 million euros in the town of Castagneto Carducci. The former Cariola quarry will be renovated to become a winery for the Bolgheri estates”, tweeted Enrico Rossi, President of the Region of Tuscany. Rossi announced the new project of the Argentinian businessman Alejandro Bulgheroni who has committed to build a new winery expanding over 5.000 square meters, redeveloping the location, in an "architectural project of extraordinary value, designed to exist in total harmony with the territory and aimed at improving an abandoned area". It will include a hospitality project as well. This will be yet another investment of the South American oilman, one of the richest men in the world, who continues to invest in Tuscany, to strengthen his "vinicultural kingdom", which counts 330 hectares of vineyards in the main denominations of the Region, 153.3 in Dievole, in the historic Chianti Classico (where wine and oil have been produced since 1090), 11.5 of Podere Brizio (of which 7 are Brunello) and 67.6 of Poggio Landi (of which 33 are Brunello), and, 58.75 of Tenuta le Colonne in Montalcino and 34 of Tenuta Meraviglia in Bolgheri.
“We have been established in Tuscany for many years”, explained Bulgheroni, “and the investments we have made so far have always been aimed at achieving a high quality of excellence while respecting the environment and developing the territory. Our Bolgheri project will definitely continue in the same direction, and we are grateful for the valuable collaboration the institutions have shown us, allowing us to combine our production needs along side the need to present a project that will have a very low environmental impact. We are sure that once it is built, it will attract enthusiasts and consumers and will benefit the entire denomination”. The new winery in Castagneto will be designed by Tori, and built in a 5.000 square meter area inside the former Cariola quarry on the Le Colonne estate, which is property of Dievole S.p.a., and it will serve the two Bolgheri estates, Tenuta Meraviglia (another property of the company) and Tenuta Le Colonne. The building of this environmental and production project focuses heavily on the values of respect and sustainability of the local environment and landscape. As far as the landscape is concerned, the quarry represents the least invasive choice of location, among the various possibilities, thanks also to the approach of the project that is profoundly integrated in the natural setting.
The building will be structured on three levels, and there will be a panoramic green roof, on which to enjoy the perfumes of the Mediterranean as well as a glimpse of the sea. The offices will be located on the top floor, grapes will be stored on the middle level and wines will be aged in casks at the bottom level.
The crown of the old quarry and the stone wall will be left intact, thereby providing a positive effect on the inside microclimate.
