Italy showcased at "Matter of Taste", the 40th anniversary party for "The Wine Advocate" in New York

Numerous Italian wine producers in the spotlight, and Robert Parker uncorked a double magnum of Aldo Conterno’s Barolo from his own cellar

The numbers from the market indicate there are obstacles, but the passion of American consumers for great Italian wine is stronger than ever. This was the powerful and clear message in New York on the stage of "Matter of Taste", the traveling event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the foundation of Robert Parker's "The Wine Advocate". Robert Parker is the one who changed wine criticism forever, giving life to a phenomenon, his "100 point system", which among the great wines of the world, has also put Italy in the front seat.
Robert Parker was also celebrating his own success, and at the dinner "Bring your own bottles", held at the Del Posto Restaurant in New York, one of the temples of Italian cuisine in the world, “brought and shared a double magnum of Barolo Bussia 1989 by Poderi Aldo Conterno from his private cellar”, Monica Larner, correspondent in Italy for "The Wine Advocate", told WineNews.

“It was a success, a great event including many very important people. The "theme" was wines having scores above 95/100”, explained Monica Larner, “and the Italian contingent was quite substantial. And the fact that many Italian wine producers participated was also very beautiful”: Alessia Antinori (Antinori), Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta (Tenuta San Guido - Sassicaia, both pictured with Robert Parker and Monica Larner, ed.), Antonio Capaldo (Feudi di San Gregorio), Marco Caprai (Caprai), Santi Planeta (Planeta), Luca Currado (Vietti), Paolo de Marchi (Isole e Olena), Luca Sangiust (Petrolo), Elisabetta Geppetti (Le Pupille), Virginie Saverys and Max de Zarobe (Avignonesi) and Francesco Ripaccioli (Canalicchio di Sopra), to name a few, “who met the public in person, served the wines, showing great passion and affection towards The Wine Advocate, the United States and New York” .
There were many highlights on stage, from Louis Roederer’s master class dedicated to Cristal, the preview of the 2016 vintage in Bordeaux, the tasting of Spanish wines that received the prestigious 100/100 at the Charity Gala Dinner (that raised funds for the St Jude's Children's Hospital and The Independence Fund) and, looking at Italy, the CEO Antonio Capaldo’s retrospective on the Pàtrimo of Feudi di San Gregorio.
