Wine, liquors and more: the EU responds to the US threats of new duties

A temporary list for 20 billion euros of possible new duties to the “made in the U.S.” has been published, public consultation until the end of May

Wine, liquors, but also a long list of fresh and frozen fish, different types of cheese, such as cheddar, potatoes, onions and other fruits and vegetables, but also coffee, vanilla, cereals, sunflower seeds, soybeans, peanuts, chocolate, coffee, tobacco, and even tractors, mechanical components, bags, video games and so on: there is a very long preliminary list of products made in the USA published by the EU Commission, on which the European Union could claim as a countermeasure to the duties that, in turn, the U.S. of Trump have threatened to apply to European products, including wine, in the controversies related to EU aid to Airbus, which would damage the American Boing. A potentially large trade counteroffensive, given that if the U.S. has threatened duties of 11 billion dollars, the EU has responded with a possible response of 20 billion dollars. A period of public consultation is now opening, which will last until 31 May, when the list will be definitive. But the World Trade Organisation will still have the final say on this matter.
