THE FRENCH SENATE HAS ESTABLISHED THAT WINE IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF FRENCH CULTURE. THE DECISION PLACES THE NECTAR OF BACCHUS AMONG THE VALUES OF FRENCH HERITAGE LIKE THE FRENCH REVOLUTION IN 1789 AND THE EIFFEL TOWER

The French Senate has confirmed what has already been commonly accepted, and that the National Assembly had already ratified: wine is an integral part of French culture, like the Revolution of 1789 and the Eiffel Tower.
The senators of the French Republic voted unanimously in favor of wine as part of the French national heritage. The decision for wine producers should also bring additional protection to the French wine industry, under attack especially by the anti-alcohol legislation that even in Paris has produced some grotesque effects.

After the National Assembly passed the proposal, the Senate then approved an amendment that recognizes "wine, product of the vine and its terroir, part of the cultural, gastronomic and rural heritage of France".
Roland Courteau, politician from the Languedoc-Roussillon region launched the proposal. After the Senate vote, wine is no longer seen as a common alcoholic beverage and will be protected from future attacks and attempts to diminish its value.

“The culture of wine has been part of our heritage for 2.000 years”, said the Senator Gerard Bailly, “and has played an important role for the reputation of our country and especially increased its reputation as the world's most important wine center. All over the world, wine means France. Beer and spirits are another thing, and they can damage one’s healts”.
