BETWEEN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER

Historic trains to Langhe, Roero Monferrato for an autumn trip among wine, truffle and landscape

The offer by Fondazione Fs Italiane enriches with the vintage coach routes and tastings aboard Milan-Alba and Turin-Canelli

The glasses of Barolo and Barbaresco, together with the great wines of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato regions, a Unesco World Heritage vineyard landscape that, after the grape harvest, offers the magic of autumn foliage; the sparkling wines of Asti and Alta Langa, arisen in the “Underground Cathedrals”, also recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site; and the aroma of the world finest white truffle at the height of its harvesting season, will accompany travelers aboard Italy historic trains which, between October and November 2026, will lead them to discover some of the most celebrated territories of Italian food and wine culture. The offerings of the Fondazione FS Italiane are being enriched with new signature itineraries dedicated to Piedmont and Lombardy: the Milan-Alba and Turin-Canelli routes.
The first historic train to depart in October is the Milan-Alba (on Sundays, October 11th, 18th and 25th). The train will leave Milan Central Station at 9:05 a.m. and arrive in Alba, the “capital” of the Langhe region and of the white truffle, at 12:35 p.m., traveling via Pavia, Alessandria and Asti through the vineyards of Roero and Monferrato. The return journey will depart from Alba at 6:20 p.m. and arrive in Milan at 10:00 p.m. The journey will take place aboard the iconic 1970s Gran Confort coaches, where comfort, large panoramic windows and a leisurely pace will enhance the beauty of the Langhe autumn landscapes. Along the route, passengers will enjoy wine tastings, seasonal food samplings and stories dedicated to Nebbiolo and other local symbols, in an experience that introduces the outstanding excellence of the Langhe territory.
In November, the Turin-Canelli will begin operation (on Sundays, November 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd). The train will connect Turin Porta Nuova with Canelli, where Italy first sparkling wine was created in its underground cellars, stopping at Torino Lingotto, Bra and Alba while crossing the hills, vineyards and villages of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato regions. The journey will be operated with historic 1920s Centoporte coaches and enriched by tastings and masterclasses dedicated to wines, local specialties and the sparkling wine culture of Alta Langa and Monferrato. The inaugural run on November 1st will have a particularly special charm thanks to the presence of a steam locomotive, a highlight during one of the most evocative times of the year, marked by the colors of the autumn foliage.
With these new proposals, historic trains also become ambassadors of Italy regions, enhancing the cultural, landscape and gastronomic heritage of Piedmont and Lombardy through an authentic and immersive travel experience.
