The origins in Asti of the family of Pope Francis are now well known: his grandfather was born in Portacomaro in the province of Asti and had a vineyard that produced Grignolino, that the then Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, tasted during a visit of the Association "Piedmont in the World”, and that he then visited when he traveled to Piedmont.
But now Pope Francis will have his "official wine”. The Bishop of Asti, Francesco Ravinale will give the Pope a bottle of Grignolino labeled "Ast t'aspeta in bras duert" (Asti is waiting for you with open arms) at the " Visita ad Limina” on May 10th in the Vatican. But there will also be other bottles of the same wine that will be delivered to the Cardinals Angelo Sodano and Giuseppe Lajolo of Asti, and others produced in a limited series will also be offered for sale for the "Pope Francis Solidarity Fund".
