Trentodoc tops sparkling wine world championships as world most awarded Metodo Classico

From Ferrari Trento to Rotari (Mezzacorona Group), from Altemasi and Cesarini Sforza (Cavit Group) to Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga and Maso Martis. These are just some of the many wineries which have once again helped Trentodoc, the first Metodo Classico sparkling wine to obtain DOC status in Italy and the celebrated “mountain sparkling wine” arisen on the slopes of the Unesco-listed Dolomites, reach the top of the world in the “World Championship of Sparkling Wines”, winning 35 gold medals (out of a total of 87 for Italy and 156 overall) at the 2026 Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships, the world most prestigious competition dedicated to sparkling wines. The championship was founded by Tom Stevenson, one of the world leading sparkling wine experts and author of the Christie’s World Encyclopedia of Champagne & Sparkling Wine.

Day after day, our producers cultivate the excellence of mountain bubbles, making them an unmistakable symbol of quality, uniqueness, and prestige that is now fully recognized and celebrated internationally”. Leading the medal count for Trentodoc, there is Ferrari Trento, part of the Lunelli Group, with an impressive nine gold medals. For the sixth consecutive year, and for the ninth time overall, it was also named “Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year”. Rotari earned 5 gold medals, while Altemasi collected 2, and Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga received 1. Numerous other Trentino wineries were also recognized, including Cesarini Sforza, Maso Martis, Fondazione Edmund Mach, Gaierhof, Borgo dei Posseri, Cantina Aldeno, Cantina di Riva, Cantina Furletti Gabriele, Cantina Sociale di Trento, Cantina Mori Colli Zugna, Cantina Toblino, Endrizzi, Monfort, Opera, Rechof, Ress, Revì, San Michael, Simoncelli Armando, Tenuta Gottardi, Tenute Vidi, and Viticoltori in Avio.
“The gold and silver medals awarded each year at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships can be considered a summary of wine evaluations over time  - underlines Tom Stevenson -  2019 was the year that collected the highest number of medals, but results vary depending on the regions of origin. Trentodoc demonstrates remarkable consistency in its performance: 2026 was in fact its second most successful year, tied with 2025”.
All of this comes as anticipation builds for the Trentodoc Festival, scheduled to take place in Trento from September 25th to 27th, as well as “Trentodoc in Cantina”, a widespread event offering 125 experiences which take enthusiasts, experts, and curious visitors into the places where Italy quintessential mountain sparkling wines are crafted. Hosted by the wineries of the Trento DOC Institute, the program includes food and wine experiences pairing Trentodoc with local gastronomy, open-air breakfasts and picnics, vineyard trekking, e-bike tours, soft-clubbing events, tastings with sound sommeliers, and sensory workshops dedicated to olfactory memory.
More broadly, the quality growth of Italy sparkling wine sector is widespread. Alongside gold medals awarded to producers from denominations such as Asti, Alta Langa, Lambrusco, and Oltrepò Pavese, and extending even to Sicily, where the specialized winery Milazzo stood out with six gold medals, Franciacorta also emerged prominently with 13 gold medals and several highly awarded wineries. These include Guido Berlucchi (3 gold medals), Ca’ del Bosco (3), and Bellavista (1). Gold medals also went to Prosecco DOC producers such as Paladin (1) and Stefano Bottega (1), to Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG producer Andreola (1), up to South Tyrol with Kettmeir (part of Herita Marzotto Wine Estates) with 5 gold medals, and to Campania for Dubl (from Feudi di San Gregorio) with 1 gold medal, to name just a few.
