EXPO 2015 – “SHOWCASE OF MADE IN ITALY AND AGRO-FOOD INDUSTRY, SAYS PRIME MINISTER BERLUSCONI”. THE MINISTER OF HEALTH, FAZIO, SIGNS PROTOCOL FOR INITIATIVES ON FOOD SAFETY. AT EXPO 2015 IN PARMA THE INTERNATIONAL EVENT “CIBUS-EXPO”

Expo 2015 in Milan will bring Italy to the world’s attention and will affect all of our businesses. It will be a showcase of Made in Italy and especially the food and wine industry because the main theme of the show is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life“. It will be an opportunity to present research and products that are made around the world,” says the Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi. ”We started out with some concern about being able to create a harmonious event, given the many actors involved, but it seems to me that the difficulties have been overcome,” said the Premier, who is optimistic about the path to Expo in Milan in 2015 and called for support to ensure its success.
“Everyone believes in the importance of the event and that we should all work together for its success, as it represents Italy in the world.” Prime Minister Berlusconi confirms that the subject of today’s meeting at Palazzo Chigi is “to focus on the letter of registration that I will have to sign”, which includes the “almost ready” industrial plan of the Expo. “I guaranteed,” he added, “the government’s full support, today in session, with almost all the ministers present. The two ministers not present had given precise explanations regarding the commitments they had elsewhere”.
Congratulations, then, for the work and the location that “as a citizen of Milan, I find very well done. It will bring development to the north of Milan, which will remain an attraction both for the Milanese and the tourists”. He also gave top votes for “the innovative project of exhibition spaces, with living quarters and offices that will remain as an enrichment to Milan”. He continues, “I have already decided to give my personal contribution to one of these buildings.”

A Memorandum of Understanding to activate initiatives for promoting food security in view of Expo 2015 in Milan was signed today in Parma by the Minister of Health, Ferruccio Fazio, and the Director of the European Food Safety Authority (ESSA) Catherine Geslain-Laneelle and the mayor of Parma, Piero Vignali. The protocol provides for the creation of a European center for food safety and quality in Parma, which will house all the initiatives dedicated to this topic. The first one will be the establishment of a Higher Education School of Training on Safety and Food Quality to prepare senior government officials and business leaders in the food sector. During Expo 2015, there will also be the major International event, “Cibus-Expo 2015” for the promotion of correct dietary habits and to protect consumer health, held in Parma. “With this agreement,” emphasizes Minister Fazio, “we again stress the importance of one of Italy’s top values: the authenticity of the food and the welfare of its citizens. Italy can indeed boast that Parma is the cradle of the food industry. By signing today, Parma becomes the center in Italy and Europe for food safety and quality”.
The Minister explained that he had solicited the support for this initiative from Luca Zaia, Minister of Agriculture and Maria Stella Gemini, Minister of Education, both on the Expo 2015 Committee. The school of quality formation will collaborate with the Universities of Milan (Catholic and Public) and the University of Parma.
“Parma,” adds the Mayor Pietro Vignali, “is no longer just the “Food Valley” but is now the reference point for food safety, thanks to European Food Safety Authority (ESSA), and our city is committed to making it work even better”.
