It is always time for rankings in the wine world, at the international level, too. The newest one to arrive is the first “Top 100” of the year, signed by the popular American magazine “Wine & Spirits”, which has just announced its selection of the “2018 Top 100 Wineries”, the stars of the now traditional tasting to be staged on October 9th in San Francisco. The proceeds will go to support the San Francisco Baykeeper, an organization committed to the fight against water pollution. And, of course, the great names in Italian wine will be present, as 12 wineries have been selected among those that during the year have obtained the highest overall scores in the “Wine & Spirits” tastings.
Great Italian names will include Marchesi Antinori, one of the most important names in the Italy and the world, and Tenuta di Biserno, Lodovico Antinori's prestigious winery in Bibbona, a stone's throw from Bolgheri, but also great names from Piedmont and Barolo, such as Conterno Fantino, Elvio Cogno, Oddero and Sandrone, and of course the great brands of Brunello di Montalcino like Le Ragnaie and Poggio di Sotto (of the ColleMassari group, headed by Claudio Tipa), the historic Rocca di Montegrossi winery, in Chianti Classico, Le Salette, in Valpolicella, Mastroberardino , one of the most prestigious wines in Campania, and Gulfi, one of the gems of Sicilian viniculture.
