Franciacorta is one of the healthiest areas among the top quality Italian sparkling wines. From January to October of this year, sales of the exquisite Lombardy bubbles have grown 2.2%, turnover has increased 7.4%, and exports, which account for 14.4% of the total, are up + 5.6%.
These are the numbers of a healthy wine district, which has also changed its top leader at the Consortium of Franciacorta, and has elected Silvano Brescianini as its new chairman, who is DG of the historic Barone Pizzini and former vice-president of the Consortium from 2009 in the role of delegating technical and research activities. Vittorio Moretti, at the helm of Bellavista and Contadi Castaldi, who has led the Consortium over the last three years, has handed over the torch to Brescianini. The election was held yesterday at the shareholders' meeting in Erbusco, where the Board of Directors was also renewed.
“At the end of my mandate”, said Vittorio Moretti, “I would like to thank all of you who have given me the opportunity to be able to put my passion, experience and expertise at the service of a shared project. It was precisely the strong internal unity that I have observed over these three years that has allowed me to live an adventure filled with incentives and results, which we have all benefited from. I have had the opportunity to share this adventure with all of you and, especially with the Board of Directors, who have been at my side. Together, we have given life to numerous activities and initiatives. All of the initiatives we have undertaken have given our companies the chance to grow and reach new markets, and for our territory and our wines to be appreciated by an ever broader public and further for the Franciacorta brand to get the notoriety and position that today is fully acknowledged. My experience at the head of our Consortium comes to an end, today, my contribution of passionate and commitment will never wane for the new important goals that the territory and brand, Franciacorta shall pursue. I am certain that this passion and commitment will see us prominent players also on the international scene in the near future”.
The new president Silvano Brescianini said, “my mandate will be in the name of continuity in respect to what my colleagues have achieved in previous years, with whom I worked very closely during nine years as vice chairman. Franciacorta is in my DNA and I have always had a passion for this territory for my entire life. Continuing along this path in the role of President is a source of great pride to me”.
“The guidelines of my mandate”, continued Silvano Brescianini, “will be inspired by the work my partners together with professor Domenico De Masi have carried out. The research has revealed important indications regarding the perspectives of Franciacorta and above all the importance of teamwork and unity, which even though it is already a distinctive element, it must be the strong point in promoting our wine and our territory. There are many open issues, however, focusing on foreign markets and environmental protection will certainly have priority”.
