One of the reasons why the US is the cradle of trends and fashions that consequently erupt all over the world, is its ability to capture each current and social change, then turn it into a business opportunity. For instance, many stars in the entertainment, fashion and cinema worlds are part of the LGBT+ community in the US and keep it in the spotlight. And, as the study conducted by the communication company Klaus Davi & Co. revealed, representatives of the gay VIP community have also, over time, become ambassadors of Italian wine worldwide. This is because one of their key mantras is researching the absolute top of the range; so, in the wine sector Italian names are absolute must haves. The Klaus Davi agency examined more than 100 US magazines, not only in the sector, and compiled the top 10 of the most beloved wine brands, and the top 10 restaurants where you can taste them, thanks to a first-rate wine list.
The king of this ranking is the symbol of Bolgheri’s wine production, Sassicaia, in complete accord with the most important and influential wine lists. It is paired with “Craig’s Restaurant” in West Hollywood, California, where some of their regular customers are rock stars like Boy George. Following closely on its heels, another legendary wine, Ornellaia, permanently resides on the wine list of Cecconi’s West Hollywood Restaurant in Los Angeles, where one of its most prominent customers is Ellen DeGeneres, presenter and comedienne who has become one of the most influential representatives of the LGBT community. In third place, and changing Regions, is Allegrini’s Amarone, a must for New York’s “Per Se”, frequented by Joseph Altuzarra, the young fashion designer of divas like Rihanna, Kate Bosworth, Nicole Kidman, Tessa Thompson and Naomi Watts. Continuing on the top ten list, in position number 4 we find Brunello di Montalcino by Biondi Santi, paired with the restaurant “Pappas Bros Steakhouse” in Dallas, whose clientele includes Jeffrey Tambor, a lead actor in the Transparent series in which he played a trans, much loved by the LGBT community, and then at number 5, Barbaresco of Gaja and the “Tamarine Restaurant & Gallery” of Palo Alto, California, where Tim Cook, CEO of Apple and declared homosexual, dined with Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google. Recioto della Valpolicella by Giuseppe Quintarelli is instead at number 6 paired to “Madeo” restaurant in Beverly Hills, where the VIP couple Portia de Rossi and Elle DeGeneres is among the most loyal customers. “Mille e una notte” of the Sicilian Donnafugata brand, is in spot number 7, and is a permanent presence at the Cipriani restaurant in New York, where the famous designer and director Tom Ford has dined several times. The Umbrian Rosso di Montefalco by Arnaldo Caprai is at number 8, paired to the restaurant “Element 47” in Aspen, Colorado, a mountain destination where the legendary Elton John has also been sighted numerous times, certainly a world representative of the LGBT community. And at spot number 9 Radici Taurasi Riserva by Mastroberardino, is one of the top wines at “Canlis” restaurant in Seattle, Washington, which also counts among its guests the homosexual actor George Takei, who played the legendary Lieutenant Sulu helmsman of the “Enterprise” in Star Trek. Finally, to close the top 10 special list, there is none other than Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva, paired to Miami’s “Casa tua”, where Chloë Sevigny, a gay icon actress, who has played gay roles in some of her films, is one of their most frequent customers.
