“PINK QUOTAS”

Albiera Antinori, Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta and Cinzia Merli are at the helm of Bolgheri

The top level, all-female trio at the presidency of the Consortium of the top Denomination in Italy

Albiera Antinori, Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta and Cinzia Merli are leading Bolgheri

The all female trio, ready to lead the Consortium for the Protection of Bolgheri Wines includes: Albiera Antinori (Guado al Tasso), Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta (Sassicaia) and Cinzia Merli (Le Macchiole). The Denomination is riding the crest of the wave and representing Italian wine around the world on a par with giants like Brunello di Montalcino and Barolo. This is really good news for the entire sector because it demonstrates that, once again, in case it still needed to be reiterated, reality travels faster than norms and rules. Regardless of the ‘pink quotas’, Bolgheri will be "governed" by top-level women. Albiera Antinori, new president of the Consortium of Bolgheri Wines, is the heiress to the most ancient Italian wine dynasty, while the vice presidents are Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta, niece of Mario to whom we owe the creation of Sassicaia and the birth of the legendary Bolgheri, and Cinzia Merli, who has been working in the territory since 1983, and in just over thirty years has conquered both critics and wine lovers with Le Macchiole wines.
Behind them is a story of pioneering and winemaking freedom, based on three great international vines - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which all express territoriality and typicality. In front of them, instead, there is a story yet to be told, of the continuous research for the highest quality in wine and hospitality, potentially even longer and more upright than the wonderful Viale dei Cipressi, which the poet Carducci immortalized (“The cypress trees stand straight and true from Bolgheri to San Guido in double rows, like giants at a race running to meet and gaze once more on me"), has become a symbol of the territory and the Consortium. The future is "alongside" Napa Valley, but it is also looking toward China, because the Bordeaux-cut wines have enormous potential on Asian markets, which have always been in love with Bordeaux. It is one of the most beautiful territories in Tuscany and is becoming also one of the most popular tourist destinations. Furthermore, there are the numbers that substantiate Bolgheri's state of health, which give the Tuscan wine a true “blue chip wine” status. It is the only Denomination among the Tuscan greats, as data WineNews has revealed, to see an increase in sales, jumping +16% in the first 7 months of 2019 compared to 2018. Thus, this is yet another sign of the health of one of the most prestigious territories in the world today, and one of the most expensive in Italy – estimated market value goes from 400.000 to 500.000 euros per hectare - but it is also one of the most solid and dynamic.
