Saying Ezio Rivella is saying the name of one of the people who has most influenced the history of Italian wine, and one of the most important territories, that of Montalcino. One of the first enologist-managers ever, who started from his Piedmont, he created from nothing, in the eighties of the twentieth century, with the Italian-American family Mariani, the epic of Castello Banfi, which marked the commercial success of Brunello di Montalcino in the world. A knight of work, he was also president of the world’s enologists (the first Italian to lead the Union des Œnologues), and one of the first to bring a managerial and entrepreneurial vision of the figure of the enologist into the sector. He was today awarded in Matera the recognition of “Celebrity of the Year” by the Italian Enologists, led by Riccardo Cotarella, in the Assoenologi Congress, who stressed that “Rivella has validated the technology, and has made it clear to all that without the winemakers the wine would be the result of chance”.
