In the first semester 2026, export of Italian wine to Canada to 208.6 million euros (+1.1%)

Italian wine exports to Canada showed modest growth, confirming the importance of this North American market to the sector economy. In fact, in 2025 Canada was Italy export destination No. 4 for wine, according to Istat data analyzed by WineNews, with exports worth 420.7 million euros (-5.8% compared to 2024) and volumes approaching 75 million liters (+1.9%). This trend is improving in 2026. According to Canadian customs data analyzed by the Spanish Wine Interprofessional Organization (Oive), in the first half of 2026 Italy was Canada second-largest wine supplier by value, with exports totaling 208.6 million euros (+1.1% compared to the first half of 2025). Italy also ranked second in terms of volume, with 36.5 million liters exported (+2.3%). Overall, Canada recorded a decline in total wine imports in both value (-7.9%) and volume (-6.8%), reaching a total of 769.6 million euros and 174.6 million liters. This resulted in a 1.3% decrease in the average wine price, which fell to 4.41 euros per liter.
Regarding the main wine suppliers to Canada by value, France ranked No. 1, recording 231.3 million euros in the first half of 2026 (dropping by-11.8% compared to the first half of 2025), followed by Italy with 208.6 million euros. Australia held third place with 69.1 million euros (+25.6%), ahead of Spain at 54.4 million euros (-15.8%). In terms of volume, Australia was the leading supplier with 37.4 million liters (+11%), followed by Italy with 36.5 million liters, and France in position No. 3 with 31.1 million liters (-6.2%). Chile ranked No. 4 with 16.7 million liters. The sharp decline in the U.S was particularly noteworthy, -50.3% in value to 31 million euros and 43.9% in volume to 8.3 million liters, a result that suggests the ongoing trade tensions between the two countries.
Looking at product categories, Canadian imports of packaged wines (sparkling wines, bottled wines, and Bag-in-Box wines) declined during the first half of 2026 in both value (-7.4%) and volume (-2.3%), reaching 735 million euros and 122.6 million liters. This trend led to a 5.3% reduction in the average price, which fell to 6.00 euros per liter. At the same time, imports of bulk wine also declined in the first half of 2026, falling -17.7% in value and -15.8% in volume, reaching 34.6 million euros and 52 million liters. The average price decreased by -2.3%, settling at 0.66 euros per liter.
