Despite a decline in the wine industry, the USA continues to reward Italian wine, in fact, there are 11 out of 50 Italian labels in “The 50 Best Wines of 2018” by VinePair.com, one of the most popular sites on wine in the United States, with three labels in the “top 10”. A ranking, explain VinePair, which focuses on wines that must all be available on the American market, naturally, with great drinkability, interesting and, above all, a very good price/quality ratio.
On the top the Californian Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 of Mayacamas Vineyards, while the first Italian label in the ranking is the Sp68 Sicilia Rosso IGT 2017 of one of the most appreciated wineries in Sicily, Arianna Occhipinti, at no. 7, in front of the Barolo Lecinquevigne 2013 of the Piedmontese label Damilano, at no. 8, and to complete the “top 10” there is also the Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano 2015 of Poliziano, one of the most important Tuscan denomination.
Followed by two great names of Piedmontese wine: Fontanafredda, with the Barolo di Serralunga d’Alba 2015, at number 21, and G.B. Burlotto, with the Verduno Pelaverga 2016, at number 22. The Rosso Infinito Veneto Igt 2015 by Maeli, an increasingly important winery in the Euganean Hills, is in the middle of the ranking. Followed by a “double win” in the sign of the Gallo Nero, with the Chianti Classico Castello di Brolio Gran Selezione 2013 by Barone Ricasoli, one of the historical realities of the territory, at no. 28, in front of the Chianti Classico Riserva 2014 of the Fattoria di Petroio, at no. 37. The group of Italians is closed by the Faive Vino Spumante Rosé Brut 2017 from the Prosecco brand Nino Franco, the Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2015 from Campo alle Comete, the Bolgheri winery of the prestigious Irpinia company Feudi di San Gregorio, and the Grillo di Mozia 2017 from Tasca d’Almerita, one of the wineries that has played a leading role in the renaissance of Sicilian wine.
