EVEN SMALL DOSES OF ALCOHOL CONSUMED DURING PREGNANCY ARE A HEALTH RISK FOR THE CHILD, EMHASIZED THE ISS -INSTITUTE OF HEALTH STUDY PUBLISHED IN THE JOURNAL "CLINICAL CHEMISTRY & LABORATORY MEDICINE"

The ISS, the National Institute of Health has stated once again that even when taken in small doses, alcohol during pregnancy poses a risk to the health of the child. The Italian-Spanish study on fetal alcohol syndrome, directed by Simona Pichini of ISS, published in the journal "Clinical Chemistry & Laboratory Medicine", conducted on 168 couples of mothers and infants at Hospital of the Sea of Barcelona, revealed that even drinking little but often, alcohol can affect the fetus. Starting with Fasd-fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, a number of possible damages caused by prenatal alcohol, ranging from birth defects to learning disabilities, behavioral and mental disorders, which are 100% preventable, however, if you avoid drinking during pregnancy.

The ISS together with the Ministry of Health, has sponsored the European Fasd Alliance campaign "Too young to drink". Erik Ravelo of Fabrica, the research center for communication of the Benetton group, created and launched the campaign on September 9the during World Day on fetal alcohol syndrome.
Its symbol is the image of a newborn baby floating in an alcoholic drink. That is not all, though, as ISS and the Ministry of Health drew up 10 good reasons not to drink: 1) consuming alcoholic beverages during pregnancy increases the risk of damage to the child's health; 2) during pregnancy no amount of alcohol is considered safe or at no risk to the fetus; 3) the consumption of any alcoholic beverage during pregnancy is harmful to the fetus no matter what type or alcoholic content; 4) alcohol is a toxic substance that passes to the placenta and reaches the fetus at the same strength as that of the mother; 5) the fetus does not have the ability to metabolize alcohol which then directly harms brain cells and tissues of the organs in development; 6) alcohol is harmful to the fetus, especially during the first few weeks and in the last trimester of pregnancy; 7) If you plan to become pregnant you should not drink alcohol - if you are already pregnant you should stop drinking it, up to birth; 8) you should not drink alcohol while breastfeeding; 9) the damages caused by prenatal alcohol, and consequently manifested in children are irreversible and incurable; 10) you can prevent damage and defects to the child caused by alcohol consumption during pregnancy by avoiding drinking alcohol.
