PARCO EDOARDO VALENTINI

With “Parco Edoardo Valentini” in Rome, the wine becomes the protagonist of the Italian toponymy

The park dedicated to the great Abruzzian winemaker was inaugurated yesterday: the vice mayor Bergamo and Ricci, the president of Fis cut the ribbon

No longer just European capitals, Nobel prizes, historical figures, rivers… Now wine also becomes protagonist of the toponymy : yesterday ,in Rome, the vice mayor Luca Bergamo , together with the president of the Fondazione Italiana Sommelier (Fis) Franco Maria Ricci and the son Francesco Paolo Valentini inaugurated the “Parco Edoardo Valentini:vignaiuolo e cantiniere (1933-2006)”, located in Viale Giustiniano Imperatore, the first to be named after a wine man. Undoubtedly, it’s not a coincidence: Edoardo Valentini, with his idea of wine, was a pioneer in wine making, and with his involvement and passion brought the Abruzzi wines, Trebbiano, Montepulciano and Cerasuolo, to the most appreciated of world viticulture. Head of the homonymous winery, the oldest in Abruzzi, Edoardo Valentini centered his philosophy of life and production on the respect for the territory, the environment, climatic cycles and, nature. He firmly believed in making wine as the expression of the territory, which is the expression of the meeting between nature and human presence throughout history and culture. That’s how he became a myth, a knowledge of winemaking and a firm company, all worths that came back into fashion.
“Receiving the toponymic plaque dedicated to Edoardo Valentini- stressed Ricci, the president of Fis- represents a pivotal moment for Italian wine. Naming the Park after one of the greatest Italian winemakers means that the Institutions have shown the proper attention towards a sector that is making Italy great around the world.”
