The Chateu Great Wall is the official wine of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. And though it is a wine produced entirely in China the bottle is of Italian design. The original bottle was, in fact, designed by RobilantAssociati, an Italian company known worldwide for brand advisory and strategic design.
The design was inspired by the bird’s nest Olympic stadium of Beijing with a series of incisions on the bottle that create a similar effect to that of the stadium’s exterior.
The perfect mix between oriental esthetic and Italian taste for design is also evident in the choice of material used: each bottle is made with four layers of blown glass, each individually created by master glass workers from Venini, the Venetian company that boasts the oldest and most prestigious tradition of glassmaking.
Produced by Cofco, the largest wine distributor in China, the wine itself is a red that has been aged 22 months and made from the best Cabernet Sauvignon of the Sha-Gheng region in the north of China.
The wine is a luxury item and, above all, a symbol of a sporting event that will be remembered in Chinese history.
