Europe is becoming more aggressive and divided, but there are those, looking to the future, who are trying to unite. The network of “metropolitan vineyards”, where Turin is the leader, is yet another message coming from the wine world. The network was launched a few days ago at the foot of the Vigna Reale of Villa della Regina, for the “Grape Harvest in Turin - Grapes in Town”, an coalition among the San Martino Vineyard in Naples and the Pompeii Vineyard, the Pusterla Vineyard of Brescia, the Venetian Lagoon Vineyards, the Siena Vineyards, the metropolitan vineyard “Clos Montmartre” in Paris, and Vienna will also be involved.
“The next step”, explained Luca Balbiano, curator of Vigna della Regina, “will be to give legal status to this diverse group. For instance, in Turin there is synergy between the Balbiano Cellars and the Friends of Villa della Regina, in Pompeii, a partnership between the Superintendence and the Mastroberardino company, Siena has a project together with the University, the Brescia and Naples vineyards are private entities, while Venice and Paris have social promotion associations behind them. The goal is to create a guideline for projects about historical recovery and cultural promotion, new business ventures and public-private synergies, as well as joint actions to promote urban vineyards in Europe”.
