"A COMMITTEE OF ‘WISE MEN’ FOR THE PAVILION AT EXPO 2015 IN MILAN MANAGED BY THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE”. MINISTER NUNZIA DE GIROLAMO EXPLAINED TO WINENEWS, "WINE IS AN EXAMPLE FOR THE COUNTRY AND POLITICS"

Nothing official yet, but the wine pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan, ''will involve all the key players in the Italian wine world, starting with Vinitaly-Veronafiere''

"The Italian wine pavilion for Expo 2015 will be under the management of the Ministry of Agriculture. Let me make it clear that it will not be just a Show. We will establish a "Committee of Wise Men" involving the entire wine world, definitely VeronaFiere, Vinitaly and the Grand Crus, to name a few, as well as many others. I would like this Pavilion to talk about wine, but also and above all about territories, land and tourism". This is what the the Minister of Agriculture Nunzia de Girolamo told WineNews at the presentation of the Atlas of Wine Italian territories, and she revealed even more about the Italian Pavilion that the entire wine world is looking toward with great interest.

"Wine is a parable for Italy, and it should also be for politics: we began with the methanol scandal, but then through meticulous and diligent work we turned a negative situation to positive and now wine is our best ambassador in the world. That is why I really wanted the wine Pavilion and the commitment of my Ministry. It is an important opportunity in which, through wine, we can narrate the best of our territories. There are two major challenges for Italian wine.
The first is to focus even more on exports, open up to markets where we are not currently present, and consolidate markets where we already are and where we still have to overcome the French, because I think we are better at making wine, while they were more talented in marketing. Also fighting against Italian sounding, wine kits and so on. The other challenge involves our institutions, and it is simplification: our entrepreneurs spend too much time on paper work, we have to let them do their job investing time and resources to improve our products and market strategies, and more and more involving young people.
Our land is the only major legacy we leave to our children and it should be treated with the care it deserves because this is the real strength of our country and our products. Wine is an example of how to get out of the crisis. Our country is not aware of the opportunities it has and of the excellence of Italians and their capability of combining quality, history and beauty. But we have to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and start working harder”.
