The exceptional wave of bad weather that has hit Italy has caused over 200 million euros in damages to agriculture. CIA – the Italian Farmers Confederation confirms this amount, stressing that the estimate is “on the low side”. For this reason, the CIA is calling for “an immediate State of Emergency for the affected areas”.
According to CIA, “there are many critical situations with hundreds of farms and cultivated fields completely flooded, many crops (particularly fruit and horticultural) in the North, Center and South have been destroyed by frost, flooding and landslides. The effects of the weather have been extremely heavy also on stables, greenhouses and agricultural equipment, as some have been destroyed by heavy snowfall.
