The queen of Gelardini & Romani Wine Auction’s (the first auction house specializing in Italian wines) “Autumn Auction” is a 2005 Imperial of Chateau Lafite Roschild: 6 liters of the great French wine brought a price of 8.386 euros. The auction confirmed the stability of high quality wines; bids were 117% of base value, with average increases of 43% per lot. An increase in demand of Bordeaux “premier cru” was also confirmed with an interesting re-evaluation, especially for older vintages (like Marie Jeanne 1973 of Chateau Petrus, +427% on the auction base price) and the “grand cru” of Italy classified by Gelardini & Romani Wine Auction (such as 1988 Masseto, +78% on the auction base price). Worthy of mention, the Ornellaia and Masseto collection alone brought an extraordinary total result of over 50,000 euros. Gelardini & Romani’s list of “collectibles” will soon be updated with the results of the 2010 auctions at the en primeur auction in November in Rome.
