Coldiretti, the Association of Italian Farmers, says that fires can break out due to a short circuit of electrical decorations on Christmas trees, pointing out that according to a study by the European Commission, 30% of the lights used for Christmas decorations have major defects.

Decorating a 1.80-meter Christmas tree with natural fruits and flowers, according to Coldiretti, costs 20-25 euros, which is 4-5 times less than traditional plastic decorations (100-120 euros). With just a little bit of imagination and creativity you can create an original and safe tree, using different colors of apples, kiwis, oranges, lemons, tangerines and clementines (which don’t mold and you can hang them by running a wire through the middle of the fruit, where there is no pulp. Make chains of pasta, dried fruit, homemade biscuits, chilies, tomatoes and strings of pumpkin bread and gingerbread sculptures, pinecones and dried fruits. And, instead of the usual gold or silver garlands, Coldiretti concludes, you can use garlands of flowers made with poinsettias, gerberas, dogwood, holly and buttercups.
