Angelini Estates, the wine “division” of Angelini Pharmaceutical Group is continuing its expansion and has bought the majority of Bertani’s historic brand Amarone della Valpolicella (2 million bottles a year, exported in more than 40 countries, 15% increase in turnover in 2011 compared to 2010, for a total of 12 million euros) adding it to the other wineries in the group: Val di Suga in Montalcino, Tre Rose Estate in Montepulciano and the historic San Leonino in Castellina in Chianti in Tuscany; Puiatti di Romans in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Collepaglia in the Marche, for a total of 1.600 hectares of land, of which 300 are vineyards producing 1.500.000 bottles a year for a yearly turnover of 8 million euros.
On December 1st, Angelini Estates finalized the purchase of the majority shares of Bertani Holding and Novare Estate, the historic company in Verona that produces some of the most famous Italian wines such as Amarone, of which the Bertani family is one of the founding fathers. Emilio Pedron will remain President and CEO of the Cavalier G.B. Bertani, to guarantee production and marketing of the wines.
The purchase, in detail, concerns the Bertani brand, its marketing distribution, the historic wineries of Grezzana di Verona and the vineyards and farms of the Novare Estate (200 hectares of woods, olive groves, vineyards, farms and perennial water fonts), in the heart of Valpolicella “Classica”, close to Verona and one of the best “cru” of the Valpolicella production.
The Bertani Brothers founded the winery in 1857 and from the beginning have always been committed to improving and enhancing the products of the Verona territory. With Amarone at the top of their production line, it is one of the first wineries to begin production (they have a unique collection of historic vintages starting from 1959) and up until today it has been family owned. “The Angelini family’s passion for land and wine in particular”, explained Angelini Estates, “favors new investments in the industry and the purchase of the Bertani Winery confirms it. Bertani and Angelini Estates will proceed with separate managements, but will immediately examine possible positive synergies. By entering into one of the most noble and prestigious Italian wine areas and enriching their product portfolio, the wine division of the Angelini Group expects to double its turnover”.
