49.000 DOLLARS FOR A NABUCODONOSOR (15 LITERS) OF ORNELLAIA ESTATE’S 2007 MASSETO AT SOTHEBY’S AUCTION IN NEW YORK PAID BY AN ASIAN COLLECTOR. A GOOD SIGN FOR ALL ITALIAN FINE WINES

49.000 US dollars for one of only 8 specimens of Masseto 2007 Nabucodonosor bottles (15 liters), one of the most prestigious Italian wines in the world. This is the price paid for the “legendary” wine of the Ornellaia Estate at the latest auction at Sotheby’s in New York. And, as usual, an Asian collector picked up the lot. This is a good sign not only for the prestigious wine, but for all fine Italian wines: that wealthy Asians, up until now devoted only to Bordeaux and Burgundy wines, are beginning to focus and raise the stakes towards Italy as well.
