IN FRANCE (LIKE IN ITALY) IF YOU ENJOY THE ALLURE OF A DENOMINATION YOU HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE TO BUILDING AND PROTECTING IT, FINANCIALLY, TOO - SENTENCED THE CONSTITUTIONAL COUNCIL OF PARIS, ON THE “BORDEAUX CASE”

For once (we say it half-jokingly, of course), Italy can look down on France. Italy only needed a law (the Chianti Classico Consortium took the lead), while across the Alps, the Constitutional Council of Paris had to step in, even if the result is the same: whoever benefits from the prestige of a name has to give a contribution to those who build and safeguard it. The Council stated that some Bordeaux producers and shopkeepers - who refused to pay the contribution of affiliation to the Bordeaux Wine Bureau (the equivalent of an Italian Consortium), because for them it mismanaged resources and was not transparent - were wrong.

Besides this though, the message is loud and clear and global: those who enjoy the allure of a territory must contribute to its management.
