WINE SPECTATOR’S FIRST TIME: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR THOMAS MATTHEWS TELLS WINENEWS WHY THEY DECIDED, TOGETHER WITH OPERAWINE TO BET HEAVY ON ITALY, “A COUNTRY THAT HAS MANY LOVERS IN THE STATES”

Video by winenews.tv:

”This is the first time we had a partner outside the U.S. and Vinitaly has the professionalism, the spirit of initiative and the desire to promote Italian wine”, says Thomas Matthews, executive editor Wine Spectator’s executive editor.

Vinitaly is over and vivid memories of its prologue, Opera Wine, the first ever wine tasting organized in Italy by Wine Spectator with Vinitaly, remain in the eyes of those who were there. WineNews spoke with the executive editor of the most widely read wine magazine in the United States, Thomas Matthews, who explained: "in Italy there are so many top quality level producers that we thought we'd focus on the "cream". For the first time, we relied on a partner from outside the U.S., Vinitaly, which has the professionalism, spirit of initiative and the desire to bring Italian wine to the attention of the world". The love of wine fans across the Atlantic for Italian wines is nothing new, though, “just come to America to see how many fans Italian wine, food and culture have. To continue our success, we have to hope the economy gets better, and all the wine producers have to do is keep producing great wines. We will do our best to discover new excellences and bring them to the world’s attention”.
