Bordeaux “in pieces”, one might say, given the frequency with which Chinese investing groups are focusing on the purchase of Châteaux in Bordeaux. It’s a very strong trend that is affecting one of the most important wine-producing areas in the world. On closer inspection though, up until now the acquisitions have been of minor companies and estates and certainly not the most renowned Châteaux of the Médoc. However, the phenomenon is no longer considered insignificant, since there are an estimated 50 cases of similar acquisitions in Bordeaux.
This time, the Chinese Baijiu Moutai Group is negotiating the acquisition of Château Loudenne a company that produces Médoc Cru Bourgeois wines. It is one of the oldest properties in the area and has been producing wine since the seventeenth century. They also have accommodation facilities. The estate has 48 hectares of vineyards, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
The Moutai Group, based in the southern province of Guizhou, specializes in the production of alcoholic beverages, and is now ready to open a division of viticulture.
