TOP WINE BRANDS: AMONG THE LEADING WINERIES NOT ONE IS EUROPEAN. CALIFORNIA LEADS, FOLLOWED BY SOUTH AFRICA AND AUSTRALIA. THE SURPRISE IS NUMBER TWO, THE CHINESE GREAT WALL, OWNED BY THE BEIJING GOVERNMENT WITH 186 MILLION BOTTLES IN 2012

In the world panorama of wine brands, some have reached extraordinary numbers (calculated by "The Drinks Business"), prevailing on the markets of the four corners of the globe with dizzying profits. In 2012, and also in 2011, first place goes to Gallo brand of the Gallo Family and leader in the United States and Great Britain with a production of 16 million 9-liter cases (equal to 192 million bottles, 6.8% more than in 2011...).
The biggest surprise however is at second place-for the first time in the ranking, the Chinese Great Wall, owned by the Beijing government, which in 2012 put something like 15.5 million cases of wine (186 million bottles) on the market and after its domestic success is ready to focus also on the vineyards of France and South America to grow even more.

On the lowest rung of the podium is the Australian Hardys Accolade group, accounting for 14 million cases (168 million bottles), up 1.7% on 2011 production.

Off the podium at position number 4 (it was at number 2 in 2011), but still growing, is Concha y Toro, the largest Chilean company with 13.64 million cases produced (163.68 million bottles). Next, the Australian brand Yellow Tails of the British group Caella Wines, at 12.9 million cases (154.8 million bottles, the same as in 2011, when it was number 3 in the ranking). In sixth position, Sutter Home, Napa Valley, controlled by Trinchero Family Estates, with 11.4 million cases (136.8 million bottles, up 2.6% on 2011), followed at position number 7 by another California-based company, Robert Mondavi, owned by Constellation Brands, with 11.22 million cases (134.640.000 bottles), 3.3% more than in 2011, when it was at position number 4. At number 8 the United States again, with Beringer of the Treasury Wine Estates Group at 8 million cases, or 96 million bottles, the same as 2011 and like then in front of Lindeman's of Treasury Wine Estates, with 7 million cases produced (84 million bottles). Rounding out the top ten, the Australian Jacob's Creek, of Pernod Ricard, at 6.9 million cases, for 82.8 million bottles.
