Lights, camera, action: everything is ready to start filming "The Duel of Wine", the second film starring the famous sommelier Charlie Arturaola, after the success of "El Camino del Vino". Italy is prominent in the film with its territories and top wines, big producers, chefs and sommeliers (and WineNews is on the big screen, too). Arturaola and his staff are just about finished scouting the location to shoot the film, which will be directed by filmmaker Nicolas Carreras and will begin next spring. It is the story of a sommelier that lost his palate, then got back his senses stronger and more developed than ever before, and wearing a mask, he challenges his unfortunate and unsuspecting "enemies".
"If it were a wine list it would be really excellent”, Arturaola told WineNews, “because there would be great Italian whites and reds. We'll be in Collio in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in Sardinia to discover Carignano, in Piedmont at the Barolo auction, to talk and deal with major producers such as Damilano, Chiarlo, Martinetti, Sandrone, Scavino, Gagliardo and so on, in Tuscany, at Venissa Bisol to tell the story of the Dorona grape, and more. Everything starts in Umbria, however, where Charlie’s friend Marco Caprai, producer of Sagrantino, and the great chef Gianfranco Vissani help the poor disgraced sommelier to recover and regain his powers. The journey starts in Montefalco and ends in New York, passing through some of the most beautiful cities in Italy, from Florence to Venice and the Basque Country in Spain. “Many famous Italian food personalities will participate in the film, like the 2013 world champion sommelier Paolo Basso, and the AIS sommelier, Adua Villa.
It is a different way to communicate wine to the general public, after the success of "El Camino del Vino" (dubbed in 8 languages and distributed on 11 markets worldwide), since "The Duel of Wine", revealed Arturaola to WineNews, has already been requested in some film festivals around the world.
