THE MARKET IS SHOWING THE WAY, BEFORE THE LAW DOES. SAINSBURY, THE SECOND LARGEST CHAIN OF SUPERMARKETS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM HAS DECIDED TO INDICATE CALORIES ON WINE BOTTLE LABELS WITH THEIR LOGO

It has been the main topic for a long time, but sometimes before the political decisions and laws, the market shows the way. Sainsbury, the second largest retail chain in the UK, has decided to indicate the calories on wine labels bottled under their own brand.
Twenty labels therefore, will indicate the calorie count for a 125ml glass, an experiment that will last at least two years. Sainsbury says it will help consumers make more informed choices about their health, since 85 % of Britons, according to a survey, does not know how many calories are in a glass of wine. The English institutions are very pleased with the initiative as they are always sensitive to everything that concerns the relationship between alcohol and health, while competitors such as Tesco criticize it.
