Jazz is one of the most successful wine and music partnerships and deserves “a place in Paradise” and one of the longest-running events on the international music scene is “Jazz & Wine in Montalcino” at its 17th edition, sponsored by Castello Banfi, Brunello winery’s and Italy’s flagship wine. It started with the preview “Waiting for Jazz & Wine on July 10th and from July 15th -20th the famous red wine will bring famous jazz stars to its territory; like Incognito, Children of the Light and Bad Plus. The unique event and forerunner of a successful format is now widely imitated, because wine is not only the star in the glass but it is also the winery that has been promoting the event for almost 20 years, when the great idea of wine companies promoting cultural festivals started.
Stefano Bollani, Roberto Gatto, Enrico Rava, Nick the Nightfly, Sarah Jane Morris, Scott Hamilton, Reggie Washington, Danilo Rea, Rossana Casale, Peppe Servillo, Mike Stern, Fabrizio Bosso, Luis Bacalov, Experience Tnt, Gino Paoli and Gato Barbieri - many of which have become known to the public from this very stage. Today, many artists choose the event for their exclusive dates in Tuscany and Italy.
Flavio Boltro, Javier Girotto, Steve Grossman, Kurt Elling, Tollak, Enrico Pieranunzi, Bill Smith, Elio, Natalio Mangalavite, Cinzia Tedesco, Robin Eubanks, Gegè Telesforo, David Liebman, Ray Gelato, Al Foster, Cedar Walton, Shawnn Monteiro, Steps Ahead, Irio de Paula, Tullio De Piscopo, Giovanni Mirabassi and Enzo Pietropaoli, so many great artists have taken the stage to celebrate and renew the encounter between jazz and great wines. "Jazz & Wine in Montalcino", promoted by Castello Banfi and in collaboration with the cultural association Jazz & Image of Rome and the Municipality of Montalcino (now also twinned, in a sort of leitmotif of wine and music with Jazz & Wine of Peace Festival Cormòns, and Zola Jazz & Wine, and this year also Wine & Jazz Marche).
The event takes place within the walls of Castello Banfi, the heart of the brand, and also in the fourteenth century Fortress of Montalcino. Many great musicians have been on the stage in the past and the17th edition will see the likes of Fabio Mariani, the Deidda Brothers, there will be a jazz tribute to the great musician Lucio Battisti, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci and Brian Blade for "Children Of The Light", The Bad Plus (only Italian date of their summer tour, with Salerno), Herbie Goins & Mauro Zazzarini and Incognito with Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick.
