YET ANOTHER WHITE TRUFFLE RECORD: 1.89 KG, PROBABLY THE LARGEST EVER, FOUND BY THE ITALIAN FIRM SABATINO IN UMBRIA. IT WILL BE AUCTIONED IN NEW YORK FOR CHARITY.

The "Guinness World Records" site still records the "largest truffle in the world" as the one found in Croatian in 1999 by Giancarlo Gigante, weighing 1.31 kilos (http://goo.gl/xwD0VM). This record has been broken and is going to be updated very soon because larger ones have been found. The firm Sabatino Italy, one of the largest global truffle suppliers, has reported on its site www.sabatinotruffles.com, finding a white truffle weighing in at 1.89 kilos, (the Umbrian firm has already received offers from all over the world for the truffle), which means it is even bigger than the one found a few weeks ago in the Bologna Apennines by a 60 year old pensioner on behalf of "Appenino Food", weighing 1.48 kilos.
The giant "tuber magnatum pico" discovered by the Umbrian firm, as its Bolognese predecessor, will be auctioned for charity in New York. The Balestra family, founders of the firm since 1911, have decided to auction the truffle. They were recently in the spotlight of international news for having hosted, last October, America's and probably the world's most famous "anchorwoman", Oprah Winfrey.
