NOONE CAN TEACH THE FRENCH HOW TO PROTECT THEIR WINE HERITAGE AND NOW THEY HAVE SUCCEEDED IN GETTING THE EU TO RECOGNIZE THE YEAR “1855” BORDEAUX CLASSIFICATION A TRADITIONAL TERM

The French have nothing to learn from anyone about safeguarding their wine heritage, on both a business and cultural level. After five years of battles, France has managed to have the year "1855" that of the Bordeaux classification, declared a traditional term, recognized and protected by the European Union. The Conseil des Grands Crus Classés conducted the initiative, and as the UK magazine "The Drinks Business" (www.thedrinksbusiness.com) writes, it is the only one that can claim "1855", because it represents the Bordeaux Châteaux of the Napoleonic classification, while no other business or company will be able to make any reference to this historic date.
Defending the symbolic year of Bordeaux became a necessity more than a year ago, when Heracles, reputed the oldest e-commerce site in Europe, "1855.com" went into bankruptcy with a 40 million euro debt and 11.000 customers who never received their Bordeaux en primeur, creating a huge image damage that obviously effected the whole denomination.
