FRESCOBALDI IS INVESTING AGAIN IN MONTALCINO. WINENEWS RUMORS HAS REVEALED THE HISTORICAL FLORENTINE FAMILY, HAS PURCHASED "LOGONOVO" (55 HECTARES, 11 VINEYARDS), ALREADY PART OF CASTELGIOCONDO BELONGING TO FRESCOBALDI SINCE 1989)

Frescobaldi is investing again in Montalcino. WineNews rumors revealed the historic Florentine family, one the leaders in Brunello territory with the brands Castelgiocondo (one of the oldest in Montalcino, property of the family of apothecaries, Angelini, until the nineteenth century, which Frescobaldi bought in 1989, totaling 880 hectares, 170 hectares of vineyards of which 148 Brunello di Montalcino) and Luce della Vite (joint venture in 1995 with the Mondavi family, totaling 192 hectares, 85 of vineyards, of which 17 hectares of Brunello), purchased the Logonovo estate for a sum estimated to be over 10 million euros, from the Swiss entrepreneur Marco Keller, who has headed the business until now, focusing especially on environment.

It is a sort of "enclave" within the property of Castelgiocondo. There are a total of 55 hectares, including 11 hectares of vineyards in excellent condition and already in production, 60% Sangiovese (but no hectares of Brunello) and 40% international varieties (Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Malbec). The property also boasts cutting-edge business facilities including a modern, over 2.000 square meter winery, entirely underground.
The transaction confirms Frescobaldi’s strategy (www.frescobaldi.com) of new acquisitions in the most prestigious Tuscan wine areas, as WineNews had already written about in February, in the wake of sales increases of the group led by Lamberto Frescobaldi (who has known Logonovo since he was very young), which closed 2015 at 95 million euros: + 9% on 87 million euros. And, they are adding a new gem to the already 4500 hectares the group owns, of which 1200 vineyards (for a total production of about 19 million bottles a year) including: Tenuta di Castiglioni in Val di Pesa; Tenute di Nipozzano in Chianti Rufina; Castle of Pomino of Tenuta Ammiraglia (designed by Sartogo) in Maremma; Castello di San Donato in Perano in Chianti Classico and Conti Attems in Friuli Venezia Giulia (remembering that Frescobaldi also holds the majority of "Tenute di Toscana", the owner of two of the most important Italian wine names -Ornellaia and Masseto).
