"MADE IN ITALY" FOOD IS MORE THAN 22 TIMES SAFER THAN FOOD OUTSIDE EUROPE, IN TERMS OF CHEMICAL RESIDUE CONTENT, SAID COLDIRETTI, ON DATA FROM THE EU AGENCY, EUROPEAN FOOD SAFETY AUTHORITY (EFSA)

0.3% against 6.5% is the gap between the percentage of food produced in Italy containing chemical residues above the legal limits and that of food products in non-EU countries. As Coldiretti has stated, this roughly translates as "Made in Italy" food products are 22 times safer, according to the data released in the last EFSA European Food Safety Authority report entitled, "National Summary Reports on Pesticide Residue" (www.efsa.europa.eu).
Italian agriculture, according to Coldiretti has become the “greenest” in Europe. It has the largest number of Community-wide certification for food products with PDO / PGI designation of origin, has won double leadership in the number of companies that grow organic and lowest incidence of food products having chemical residues out of the norm. Italy has banned the cultivation of genetically modified organisms, the association points out, and holds the European record in biodiversity: 55.600 animal species, or 30% of all European species, and 7.636 plant species.
Italy has achieved this record thanks to the fact that is the only country in the world counting 4.965 traditional foods censused by the regions, obtained according to traditional rules over at least 25 years, 285 PDO / IGP specialties acknowledged throughout the Community and 415 DOC / DOCG wines. Italy also won the record in the number of organic farms in Europe (about 50.000).
