MARILISA ALLEGRINI IS THE FIRST ITALIAN WOMAN WINE PRODUCER ON THE COVER OF "WINE SPECTATOR". THE MAGAZINE HAS DEDICATED ITS APRIL 2017 COVER STORY TO HER, "ITALY'S ALLEGRINI - A FAMILY SAGA LEADS TO GREAT WINES"

More and more women are becoming top players in the wine world, and now the first Italian woman wine producer is on the cover of the most popular wine magazine in the world. Her name is Marilisa Allegrini, she heads one of the most important Italian and especially Valpolicella wineries (but also has wineries in Montalcino, at San Polo, and Bolgheri, at Poggio al Tesoro, ed.), and Wine Spectator’s April issue cover story titled, "Italy's Allegrini - a family saga leads to great wines", is dedicated to her,
“Today the Allegrini name is synonymous with quality Italian wine, but in 1983, the three young brothers who inherited the family vineyards in the Veneto were inexperienced and frightened.
They could have opted out, but instead, Marilisa, Franco and Walter Allegrini formed a team combining their individual strengths, which led to the growth of the company that has become one of Italy's leading brands”, we read on WineSpectator.com. “We were afraid because we were young and we didn’t have control of the business. I remember my brother Walter saying we have to fight like lions to make the company survive”, Marilisa Allegrini told the American magazine.
Seeing an Italian wine producer on the cover of the magazine directed by Thomas Matthews is truly a rarity within a rarity. The magazine has often dedicated its cover to Italian wine territories, but very rarely to individual producers, at least since 1994, the year in which the magazine went online, (www.winespectator.com/issue, ed.): Angelo Gaja (in 2011), Oscar Farinetti (in 2013), Piero Antinori (twice: in 1994 and, with his daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia, in 2015), and Lodovico Antinori (in 2016).
