THE FIRST "SPARKLING WINE" PRODUCED IN ENGLAND WILL BE NAMED POMMERY (PARTNERING WITH HATTINGLEY VALLEY). AND, THE MAISON WILL ALSO LAUNCH A SPARKLING WINE MADE IN THE USA, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CODORNIU)

The first English "sparkling wine" to be produced by the great Champagne brand Pommery (in partnership with Hattingley Valley Winery, in Hampshire, one of the most appreciated of the English sparkling wine movement) will be on the market in late 2017 (and not in 2019, as previously scheduled). It will be the first vintage of "Louis Pommery", 15.000 bottles of the 2015 harvest, as the UK magazine "The Drinks Business", reported.

Further, Pommery’s chef de cave, Thierry Gasco, said the "Louis Pommery" brand will also be dedicated to another sparkling wine, Made in the USA, in collaboration with Artesa, the California winery of the Spanish sparkling wine giant, Codorniu. The English sparkling will be Pinot Noir dominant, while the California one will be almost all Chardonnay.

The bubbles market is quite strong, and production giants the world over are beginning to diversify by type and territory.
So much so that as Gasco told "The Drinks Business", Pommery has also bought another 40 hectares of land near Southampton, Hampshire, where this spring they will plant vineyards. The sparkling wine market is growing, as well as the quality and the reputation of British bubbles, so for those who want to grow, it is a perfect combination, considering that one hectare of land in the UK costs 25,000 pounds, while in Champagne the prices goes up to 1 million euros.
It is no coincidence, then, that another big name in Champagne, Taittinger, was the first to buy 69 hectares of farmland in England, Kent, to produce 300.000 bottles of bubbles under the brand Domaine Evremond, which is the name of the company that has decided to invest (first harvest expected in 2020).
