THE WEB, SOCIAL MEDIAS AND WINE APPS ARE WONDERFUL AND ARE CHANGING THE APPROACH TO THE WINE WORLD, BUT AT RESTAURANTS, 80% OF ENTHUSIASTS WANT THE SOMMELIER AT THEIR TABLE, REVEALED THE US MAGAZINE "WINE SPECTATOR" SURVEY.

Wine apps, the web and social medias are great and are changing the way people get to know the wine world, and the approach to critics, reviews and choosing a bottle of wine. But Bacchus’ nectar is still, first and foremost, sharing in person, talking face to face, especially when you need advice, or an appraisal on the bottle to choose at the restaurant. According to the vast majority of fans, they would rather there be a sommelier available when they are out to dinner. At least, that’s what the people who responded to the US magazine "Wine Spectator" survey on the subject think.

Only 20% of respondents said that they did not need a sommelier because, “I already have all the wine information I need and I do not want the cost of a sommelier reflected on my bill”. At the other end, 7% say they really need the help of a sommelier to select a wine, while 44% like the fact that there is an expert available, because “especially now that I know more about wine, I love talking about it and discussing with the sommelier”.
29% responded that although they do not feel the need, “I'm glad that sometimes there is a sommelier, because if I'm not familiar with the wine list, advice is a great help”.
