Cecchi has put down roots in Montalcino. WineNews rumors have it that the historical Chianti company has bought vineyards and a winery in one of the most prestigious territories in Italy and the world: Montalcino. The group, led by brothers Cesare and Andrea Cecchi, appears to have acquired 6 hectares of vineyards, including 3 for Brunello near the thousand-year-old Abbey of Sant’Antimo, between San Polo and Castelnuovo dell’Abate.
The amount of the deal is so far undisclosed, but should soon be officially revealed. The numbers involved are at the high level range, considering that according to WineNews estimates, the latest vineyard transactions in Brunello di Montalcino have reached figures of around 700.000 euros for one hectare.
The group, founded in 1893, and over its 125 year history, would be adding another pearl to the estates the Famiglia Cecchi owns (Villa Cerna and Villa Rosa in the Chianti Classico, Val delle Rose in Maremma, Castello Montauto in San Gimignano and Tenuta Alzatura in Montefalco, Umbria, for a total of over 300 hectares, http://www.cecchi.net), and a further investment in the territory of Montalcino, where Cecchi already manages the distribution of one of the most well-known brands of Brunello di Montalcino, Poggio Antico - 33 hectares of total vineyards, of which 25.7 for Brunello - purchased in July 2017 by the Belgian company Atlas Invest, founded in 2007 by Marcel van Poecke and active mainly in the energy and real estate sectors.
