Warnings on Twitter: Donald Trump against Macron, brings up wine tariffs

“The US facilitates importing French wines, France makes it difficult for American wines by imposing very high duties. It's not right, we must change"

Perhaps it will end up being just a quip that will just fizzle out on social medias, where it started, as often happens in this day and age where Twitter or Facebook are now the official channels of institutional communication. Or maybe not. The fact is, for the first time, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in an exchange of anything but courteous tweets with the French President Emmanuel Macron (outside of the celebrations for the end of the First World War, which brought many heads of state and world leaders together in Paris) brought up proposals on wine tariffs. And, to be specific, in this case, French; however, it is a signal that must make EU wine producers’ including Italy, ears perk up, since the rules for exporting wines in the US are the same.
“France produces excellent wine on the market, but so does United States. The problem is that France makes it very difficult for the US to sell its wine in France and imposes significant tariffs, while the US facilitates French wines and imposes very limited duties. Unjust, it must change!”, tweeted the US president (“On Trade, France makes excellent wine, but so does the U.S. The problem is that France makes it very hard for the U.S. to sell its wines into France, and charges big Tariffs, whereas the U.S. makes it easy for French wines, and charges very small Tariffs. Not fair, must change!”, which is the original tweeted text). The Trump family, among other things, is also a wine producer, Trump Winery in Virginia. It might just end up being an exchange of quips, but attention must be kept vigilant, especially in Italy as the United States, to date, is its number one foreign market in value.
