Top Christmas pairings: Capon with Amarone Allegrini, guinea fowl with Ornellaia

And, scallops with Vintage Tunina by Jermann, Pandoro with Anna Maria Clementi by Ca' del Bosco...

The top Italian wine brands meet traditional Italian dishes, and the result is a guide of favorite pairings, or at least we should say, the pairings Italian families mostly want for the holiday table. The portal “Spot And Web” created and carried out the survey, proposing 50 different pairings to its participants, and Stuffed Capon paired together with Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Fieramonte di Allegrini, received over 41 % of preferences. In second place, at 39%, another meat dish was paired with one of the most famous Italian wines in the world, Ornellaia, roasted guinea-fowl paired to the Bolgheri wine has all the contours of a royal banquet respecting the full holiday spirit. And, in third place a classic dish from Southern Italy, scallops au gratin together with an iconic wine of the North, Friuli Vintage Tunina of Jermann, which received 35% of the votes.
Dessert and bubbles were the pairings for fourth place - the Italian Christmas cake, Pandoro, together with the Ca' del Bosco Extra Brut Riserva Annamaria Clementi, was chosen by 30% of the voters. In fifth position, which 28% of the participants chose, Agnolotti del Plin, typical stuffed pasta of the Langhe and Monferrato paired to Giuseppe Mascarello’s Barolo Monprivato.
Sicily took position number 6 totaling 25% of the preferences, pairing Etna Bianco of Tenuta Terre Nere to Sicilian Swordfish; seventh place went to the marriage of Trentodoc Giulio Ferrari Reserve del Fondatore del Ferrari and Cod with Potatoes, taking 22% of the votes. Another Piedmont wine, Barbaresco Asili Vecchie Viti di Roagna to accompany Tortellini in Brodo (tortellini in broth) took eighth place (17%). In ninth place, instead, the Italian Boiled Meats Dinner was paired to Emidio Pepe’s Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (15%), while the last pairing was Brunello di Montalcino of Casanova di Neri together with Cotechino (pork sausage) and Lentils (11 %).
