Italy leads in Google searches for tourism, food and wine

Italy is at the center of the world at least as far as Google searches go. It appears that Italy is the most sought after nation for tourist destinations on searches in the tourism sector, even though the number of tourists that come to our country is fewer than other destinations, and Italy is behind France, Spain, the United States and China. Prosecco is the most sought-after Italian wine in the world, where the most searches are seasonally, and that is, in the summer, followed by Barolo, Barbaresco and Dolcetto. The United Kingdom is the nation that searches Prosecco the most, while Denmark googles Barolo the most, Norway googles Barbaresco and Bosnia and Herzegovina google Dolcetto.
Fabio Galetto, Google’s Automotive and Travel Business Director, emphasized these Google Trends linked to the world of food and wine tourism during the Food & Wine Tourism Forum, which was held at the Grinzane Cavour Castle.
Italian cuisine and food are confirmed the most sought after on Google, followed by Mexican, Thai, Japanese and French foods. The continents where Italian food is googled the most are Africa, Asia and some countries in South America.
The search keys related to Italian food all refer to activities and restaurants, confirming an analogous interest between general content and experiences. The data on the most sought after gourmet specialties at Christmas time is interesting to note as truffles are confirmed in first position on the world ranking, followed by caviar, foie gras and morels. The most googled Italian cheese is in general Gorgonzola, however, Camembert surpasses it on Google Shopping.
