BORDEAUX: CHATEAU MARGAUX VINTAGE 2012 PRICES ARE DOWN A THIRD. SAINT EMILLON PAVIE AND ANGELUS RECORDED THE LARGEST INCREASE IN VALUE, BUT WERE EXCEPTIONS. IS THE PRICE RISE "FEVER" OVER?

The 2012 Premier Cru of the world's most famous Châteaux is seeing prices in a significant down trend. This seems to be atmosphere currently in Bordeaux - perhaps the crisis is to blame, but also a bit of intolerance by the experts (plus even the wealthiest consumers) to a trend that, especially in the recent past, had seen bottles of Bordeaux wine at stellar prices.
So, both Château Margaux and Château Mouton Rothschild wine released their 2012 vintage wines at 240 Euros, a 33% decrease compared to 2011 (and 85% on 2008). Even the Second Vin Château headed by Paul Pontallier, the Pavillon Rouge, is down 12%, at 75 euros per bottle. But if some are "holding back" in Bordeaux now, at other times some have "pushed on the accelerator". The epicenter of this contrast is Saint Emillon, which is not new to these exploits, where Chateau Angelus and Chateau Pavi, come out of their cellars at 180 Euros per bottle, an increase of 30% and 58%.
There are significant price drops for Château Canon 2012 to 36.50 euros a bottle, 42% less compared to the 2011 vintage; Château Climens (Sauternes), down 41% to 41 euros a bottle; Château Talbot 26.40 euros a bottle, stable compared to 2011 vintage, but down 33% on the 2010 price; Beausejour Becot to down 14% to 30.00 euros; Phélan Ségur down 5% compared to 2011,at 21 euros a bottle and Chateau Clauzet 10.40 euros, down 1.14% on 2011.
Château Palmer was more or less stable at 160.00 euros a bottle (1% less compared to 2011 , but 88% less compared to 2008).
