CALIFORNIA WINES DOMINATE THE TOP 100 BEST SELLING WINES OF 2014 BY "WINE.COM", ONE OF THE LEADING US E-COMMERCE PLAYERS, BUT ITALY IS THIRD WITH 13 WINES, THANKS TO THE EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE OF RED TUSCANS

The end of the year is rapidly approaching, so it's time to take a first look at 2014 . There are many confirmations and some news even for online wine sales, that perhaps still isn't making a difference, but continues to grow. In the US, "Wine.com" (www.wine.com), a wine e-commerce leader, has lined up the 100 best-selling wines of the year on the "Wine.com 100" list.
The Californian Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Caymus tops the list, but the real news is that this is the first time a wine sold for more than $20.00 has topped the chart. In second place, Reserva Malbec 2011 by the Argentinean Bodegas Norton, while on the lowest step of the podium another California wine, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2012 Schug. The only Italian in the top ten, closing the ranking is La Marca Prosecco, that follows 3 other bubbly wines: a Champagne, Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label, a Cava, the Jaume Serra Cristalino Brut, and another French wine, Miraval Rosé, produced in Provence by the most popular couple in Hollywood, Pitt-Jolie.
Reds dominate the list with 71 wines, while there are only 20 whites, 7 sparklings and 2 rosés. Cabernet Sauvignon leads (there are 19 in the top 100), followed by Chardonnay (10) and Pinot Noir (8). The US is firmly in first place, and California is number one with 38 wines, then Washington (8) and Oregon (5), for a total of 51 wines in the ranking. In second place Spain, with 14 wines, followed closely by Italy, with 13, way beyond France that counts only 8 wines, thanks to a quality / price ratio offer that is unmatched.
The other Italian wines in the ranking are: Chianti Classico Riserva 2010 Castello di Monsanto, at number 14; Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio 2013 (17); Monte Antico Rosso 2009 (27); Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva 2010 Frescobaldi (41); Non Confunditur Argiano 2011 (43); Chianti Classico 2010 Borgo Scopeto (44 ); Brancaia Tre 2011 (46); Rosso di Montepulciano 2011 Fattoria del Cerro (47); Chianti Classico Riserva 2009 Castello di Bossi Berardo (55); Frescobaldi Tenuta di Castiglioni 2011 (75); Brunello di Montalcino Pertimali 2008 Livio Sassetti (81) and Ruffino Modus 2010 (82).
