MICHELIN GOES TO THE CITY – WHICH EUROPEAN CITY HAS THE MOST STARS? PARIS, AWARDED A TOTAL OF 133 STARS, FOLLOWED BY LONDON (79) AND BARCELONA (29). ITALY’S TOP CITIES ARE MILAN (21) AND ROMA (20).

Which European city has the most stars? Paris, of course, as anyone would have easily guessed. The French capital has 133 stars, divided among 10 restaurants awarded three Michelin stars, 16 two-stars and 71 share a single star, as revealed in "Main Cities of Europe" 2017, the guide to all the major cities in the Old World, starting from “A” of Amsterdam to “V” of Vienna and touching all the favorite tourist destinations from Rome to Milan, Barcelona and Madrid. Following the French capital, second place goes to London, boasting 79 stars, as follows: 2 three stars, 9 two stars and 55 one stars. The third city on the list is Barcelona, which, thanks to the new entries on the 2017 edition of the "Red guide” has 29 stars, its first 3 stars, three two stars and 20 one stars.

It really is a shower of stars, but at a closer look, haute cuisine is not for big cities. Paris, Lyon and Strasbourg, the three French cities in the guide, total 161 stars, out of 756 stars awarded since the last edition of the Michelin Guide (27 three-star, 86 two-star and 503 starred). The same goes for Italy - Rome, Florence, Milan and Turin total just 56 stars out of 400 awarded up and down the boot (8 restaurants have three stars, 41 two stars and 294 one stars), and just 2 three stars out of 8.

Scrolling down the ranking, analyzed by WineNews on the basis of starred restaurants dedicated to the major cities in Europe, Berlin is in position number 4 even though there is no three starred restaurants, there are 7 two stars and 11 one stars.
The capital of Belgium, Brussels, is next in position number five with 24 stars, 5 two stars and 14 one stars. At number 6 the second super starred city in France, Lyon, with 23 stars, one three stars, 2 two stars and 16 one star.

The first Italian city is Milan in position number 7 with 21 stars, though it is on a par with Amsterdam (both awarded 5 two stars and 11 one stars) and Madrid (1 three-stars, 2 two stars and 8 one stars). One less star awarded to Rome, in position number 8, three-stars for Heinz Beck’s La Pergola Hilton, 1 two stars and 15 one stars. Florence is also on the list with its 9 stars, including three stars for the kitchen of Annie Feolde at Enoteca Pinchiorri, plus another 6 one stars, and Turin, with 6 one stars.
