ONLY 1 VEGETARIAN IN 5 ACTUALLY STAYS A VEGETARIAN (LESS THAN 20%). 84% GO BACK TO EATING MEAT: 53% AFTER ONE YEAR AND 30% AFTER THREE MONTHS, REVEALS HUMANE RESEARCH COUNCIL SURVEY ON 11.000 ADULTS IN THE UNITED STATES

Only 1 in 5 vegetarians remains true to his/her choice (under 20%). 84% go back to eating meat: 53% after one year and 30% after three months, revealed the survey on 11.000 adults in the United States by the Humane Research Council, an organization for the protection of animals.

The study also states that "the transition from a diet that includes meat to a vegetarian or vegan diet is fairly quick - in most cases (65%) a matter of days or weeks at an average age of 34. The initial motivation is strong and seems to be dictated by the fact that you are convinced it is beneficial to your health (58%) or you want to protect the animals (27%).
But, afterwards it seems hard to resist eating meat, mostly because one feels out of the group (63%), or it is difficult to maintain a pure diet. It is easy to fall into temptation especially with chicken and fish, which seem to be the foods you miss most when you choose a diet mainly based on fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals and vegetable proteins.
Another reason to go back to eating meat, for a third of those who chose vegetarian or vegan diets is the relationship with a partner who did not choose the same diet”.
“However, 37% of those who were vegans or vegetarians”, revealed the survey “would make the same choice again, and this is what the Humane Research Council must invest in, to encourage vegetarian diets. First of all, strengthening the beliefs for choosing this lifestyle, so people do not easily falter, and then by degrees. Many people, even though they are convinced of their choice, find it very difficult to drastically change their habits and give up certain foods immediately and forever. So, a hasty and not pondered choice does not help at all”.
