PLASTIC AND SCREW ON CAPS ARE SPREADING RAPIDLY, BUT WINE LOVERS STILL PREFER NATURAL CORKS, SAID 93% OF THE 4.000 PEOPLE WHO TOOK THE WINE SPECTATOR ONLINE SURVEY

Wine stoppers are one of the variables that can make a difference. Various market researches have shown that the screw on cap for rapid rotation wines is growing and consumers readily accept it. Even quality plastic stoppers are doing quite well, though in the hearts of wine lovers, the first choice will always be natural cork, at least on the number 1 market in the world for wine, the US, according to an online survey of the biggest online wine magazine "Wine Spectator" (www.winespectator.com).
When asked, "what kind of wine stopper do you prefer?” the answer was clear: 93% of the more than 4.000 respondents said "natural cork." Then, 4% prefer the "screw cap", and 1% glass or plastic and 2% said it does not make that much of a difference.
It was a clear choice that heartened natural cork producers, and it also showed how much more there is still to do in communication and distribution for those betting on alternative wine stoppers.
