Sassicaia 2016 the top of the “Best Italian wine awards” 2019. Monvigliero and Tramin on the podium

The Sassicaia does the encore: the oenological symbol of Bolgheri, created by Mario Incisa della Rocchetta at the end of the sixties and has become, under the careful guidance of his son Niccolò, and today of his nephew Priscilla and of their family, now a canon for the entire viticulture of the Belpaese, with the 2016 vintage, it is confirmed at the top of the “Best Italian Wine Awards” 2019, the ranking of the 50 best wines in Italy created by Luca Gardini and Andrea Grignaffini,who already a year ago put Sassicaia 2015 first, capable of then conquering the even more prestigious “Top 100” of Wine Spectator. On the podium of the “Biwa” (in the jury Andrea Gori, Antonio Paolini, Eros Teboni, Othmar Kiem, Tim Atkin, Christy Canterbury, Amalya Cervera, Kenichi Ohashi and Lu Yang), also the Barolo Monvigliero 2015 of Burlotto and Terminum 2016 of Cantina Tramin, for a ranking that sees the boom of white wines (with 16 labels) and the usual head-to-head between Tuscany and Piedmont, won by the land of Sangiovese, 15-10 on the house of Nebbiolo. Among the trends that emerge from the guide, the exploit of South Tyrol, a system that, based on cooperation, has now learned to make the highest quality, but also the turning point, increasingly evident, both of the market and the critics, for once agree, towards wines that prefer drinkability.
